Sporting a 256,000-colour OLED screen, the Wizpy looks like any of of number of would-be iPod killers, and all the media playback features - MP3, Ogg, AAC, DivX and JPEG formats supported - are all present and correct. There’s a radio on board too and a text viewer.
However, the 60g, 8.4 x 4.2 x 1.2cm device also has a suitably tailored version of Linux on board ready to run browser, email and office software. Just plug it into a PC’s USB port, restart the host machine and it’ll boot up into the open source operating system so you can surf and work and be sure nothing’s being recorded on the hard disk. With battery life claimed at 10 hours. It’s only a prototype at the moment
As yet, the Wizpy’s only due for a Japanese launch, and it’s not going to be available until February next year.

Apple’s big announcement yesterday was the long-anticipated iPhone, an Apple-designed PDA with GSM capabilities. Granted, many modern phones these days are PDAs with GSM, and Apple’s entry is very, very beautiful. It sports a large touchscreen, a lot of memory (with both 4G and 8G models), and that patented (literally) Apple touch.
While following the announcement, though, I had a feeling of deja vu all over again. Something about the description of the iPhone was strangely familiar

  • Mobile phone giant Nokia has begun shipping the Nokia N76 phone to key European, Asian and Middle Eastern markets. The latest Nokia 76 phone packs in multimedia computer, technology and design, creating a whole new revolution in design for a multimedia computer. This latest eye-catching addition to the Nokia Nseries portfolio brings a wide range of multimedia experiences to consumers, enabling them to create, consume and connect, using music, videos, images and the internet

  • The concept that caught my attention today is the Nokia N99 which is equipped with a HTC-like side sliding full QWERTY keyboard and seems to be a close relative of Nokia’s N800 Internet Table.
Of course, the guy that did all the work took care of it and pimped it up with a flower-power style 9-way joystick which, combined with the sleek looks of the N800 and the overall white pearl color of the device, kind of gives me the sensation that the individual which designed it carries an iPod in his pocket all day long and has its ears carefully covered with the iPod’s earphones.
